As I write, England is one week away from 'Step 3' of the removal of COVID related social restrictions. This includes the reopening of "... indoor entertainment such as museums, theatres and cinemas"!

This step feels special.

As they often do, Marvel have channelled their inner Stan Lee to sum it up beautifully in a short film that does far more than plug their upcoming films.

The next step of England's roadmap out of lockdown is scheduled for 17th May and with it the long-awaited reopening of England and Scotland's cinemas. In a mark that there is industry-wide confidence that cinema-goers may return, a raft of studios have also announced dates for major film releases.

As I write, it is a year to the day since the start of the first U.K. lockdown. It feels an under-statement to say that a lot has changed. 

Observing today's minute silence in memory of the victims was humbling, but as the UK passes the 50% vaccination point for all adults, there are also signs for optimism, for a better future.

In 2010 Avatar blitzed the previous record to become the highest grossing film of all time. In 2019, Avengers: Endgame inched past and has held the title for the past two years.

On Saturday, Avatar's box office total reached $2.802M. Enough for it to reclaim its crown as the highest grossing film of all time.
