Buying with Confidence
Buying an original movie poster is different from buying a modern print. Each piece has its own history, format, condition and release context — and that is exactly what makes original cinema artwork so special.
At Art of the Movies, we specialise in authentic cinema-issued posters, lobby cards, stills and related film advertising material. Every item we offer is individually sourced, photographed and described, so you can understand exactly what you are buying before it joins your collection, home cinema, office or gallery wall.

Read our FAQsWhat original means
The posters we sell are original pieces of film advertising material. They were produced for the promotion, release or later theatrical presentation of a film — not newly printed reproductions made for decorative retail sale.
Original movie posters can vary by country, format and release period. A U.S. one sheet, a British quad, a Japanese B2, a lobby card, a still or a re-release poster may all be original, but each tells a slightly different part of a film’s history.
That is why we describe our posters carefully, including format, size, country, release context and condition wherever possible.
Produced for film promotion, theatrical release, cinema display or related studio advertising.
A one sheet, UK quad, Japanese B2 or lobby card can each be original, but they belong to different collecting traditions.
First release, re-release and later theatrical posters can all be original and desirable, but they should be described clearly.
Our approach
Before a poster is listed, we look at the details that matter: format, size, country of origin, release context, condition, previous handling and display suitability.
Our aim is simple: to make the important details visible before you buy, rather than leaving you to guess from the artwork alone.
We identify the poster format wherever possible, from U.S. one sheets and British quads to Japanese B2s, lobby cards, stills and other cinema advertising formats.
Where relevant, we note whether a poster relates to an original release, re-release, later theatrical presentation or another form of official film promotion.
We look for the visible details that affect condition, value and display, including folds, edge wear, pinholes, tape marks, backing, restoration or signs of previous use.
We consider how a poster is likely to present once framed, backed or displayed, and whether its size or condition may affect the best route to presentation.
If you would like a closer look before buying, just ask. We are always happy to provide further photographs or advice.
Product photographs are intended to help you judge the actual poster, not just the artwork.

Our listings are built around the individual item being offered for sale, with photographs and descriptions working together to help you understand its format, condition and presentation.
Listings are created around the specific poster being offered, rather than a generic artwork image.
Photographs and written details work together to help explain age, handling, backing, folds or other visible characteristics.
If a particular detail matters to you, we are happy to provide further photographs or advice where useful.
Condition & display
Original movie posters were made as working pieces of cinema advertising. Many were folded, displayed, handled, stored or later restored.
That history is part of their appeal, but it also means condition can vary.
Condition ratings are useful, but they are always partly subjective. That is why we encourage you to look closely at the photographs and description for the individual poster you are considering.
Many original posters were folded for cinema distribution. Others were stored or issued rolled. Both can be entirely normal depending on the format, country and period.
We use condition ratings to give a quick indication of overall state, but they should always be read alongside the photographs and written description.
Pinholes, edge wear, small tears, tape marks, creasing or signs of previous display may be present on vintage posters and should be understood before purchase.
Some posters have been professionally linen backed or restored to improve stability and presentation. We describe this clearly.
