So we’ve reached the final article of our 12 Movies of Christmas and we’ve covered quite a lot of ground in that time, from the Star Wars Holiday Special to BBC’s A Ghost Story for Christmas.

We’ve also seen a variety of Santas along the way, from the psychotic to the alcoholic, but what better place to wrap up than with a film that genuinely asks the question: Do you believe in Santa Claus?

On the surface, Bad Santa might seem like the total opposite of the kind of wholesome entertainment that we traditionally associate with the holiday season.

But, I’m here to argue that Bad Santa delivers festive spirit better than any other modern Christmas movie I can think of – okay, with the possible exception of Elf.

If Father Christmas is busy working with his toy-making elves in Lapland, who are all the Santas in stores, malls and grottoes?

The Finn's have long claimed the big man as their own and film-maker Jalmari Helander came up with a quirky answer to the multi-Santa problem in Rare Exports (2010).

Out of all the festive movies I’ve seen over the years, it is Canadian Bob Clark’s A Christmas Story that captures the sense of anticipation from a kid’s-eye perspective better than anything else.

Roger Ebert speculated that “My guess is either nobody will go to see it, or millions of people will go to see it.” He was almost exactly right, but even he couldn’t predict the film’s longevity.

Now 35 years old, it has become an annual tradition for many families and perhaps, Home Alone is just about the perfect festive film.
