Developed from the earlier Police Squad! TV series, the film's success would see Detective Drebin obliviously leave a trail of chaos through another two cinema sequels!

By the way - Leslie Nielsen's deadpan comedy delivery was apparently typical of the man in real-life. He was known to sometimes carry a portable fart machine!
