Back in November 2020 we were excited to hear that Disney had begun development of a sequel to George Lucas’ magical fantasy Willow.
Released in 1988 and directed by Ron Howard, the original film introduced us to a magical world of prophecies, sorcery and treachery, and the heroism of Newlyn dwarf Willow Ufgood, played by the one and only Warwick Davis.
While it didn’t turn out to be the blockbuster many had predicted (not all prophecies come true), it would garner two Oscar nominations and gather a strong following, particularly when released on VHS.
The movie posters by John Alvin were pretty special too.
Development of a follow up movie had been discussed as early as 2005, but it has taken the rise of Disney+ to resurrect Willow Ufgood.

A sequel to the original film, Disney tell us that the world of Willow is now a magical one where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures flourish. The adventure continues when an unlikely group of heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world.
Filming for the new series has been underway in Wales (the original was also filmed there) since June 2021, including scenes shot at the breath-taking Pendine Sands in Camarthen Bay.
After nearly a year’s filming, a stunning trailer was finally revealed at the recent Star Wars Celebration convention. You can watch it here.
Willow will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on 30th November, 2022.
We cannot wait!
