A guaranteed original U.S. 'window card' from 1965 for Robert Wise's incredible family musical "The Sound of Music", starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Richard Haydn, Peggy Wood, Charmian Carr, Heather Menzies, Angela Cartwright, and Eleanor Parker.

Based upon the hit Broadway play by Rodgers and Hammerstein (which was itself based upon real-life Maria von Trapp's 1949 memoir, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers), this wonderful movie was nominated for an incredible ten Academy Awards, winning five, including the coveted Best Picture and Best Director awards!

The soundtrack album is one of the most successful of all time, with over 20 million copies sold to date!

This wonderful piece is a fantastic example of a 'window card', a long lost movie poster format that, as its name suggests, was often placed in the window of U.S. movie theaters, shops and barbers around town at the time of showing.

As you can see from our photos, it is in super condition and the wonderful Howard Terpning artwork looks amazing. It will look incredible framed and on display!

By the way, apparently Julie Andrews was the only real contender for the role of Maria. So, not such a problem after all!

We only sell guaranteed original movie posters. We do not sell reproductions.

Note: This original window card is priced unframed. Photos showing framed and 'in room' images are for illustration only. Please check our hi-res images and the sizing information shown above.

Original Poster Buying Guide

Authenticity & Original Posters

Art of the Movies specialises exclusively in authentic original cinema posters issued for theatrical release. These are not modern reproductions or decorative reprints.

Original theatrical posters were produced to promote genuine cinema releases and re-releases. As a result, surviving examples have become highly collectible artefacts of film history.

Each poster offered on this site is an authentic vintage piece created for cinema exhibition and carefully selected for collectors and film enthusiasts.

Condition & Age

Vintage cinema posters were working promotional materials used by theatres and distributors. As such, signs of age and handling are normal and form part of their character.

Condition is carefully assessed for each poster and reflected in the description. Where relevant, notes may include details such as light handling wear, fold lines from original cinema distribution, or minor edge wear.

Any significant restoration or conservation work will always be clearly stated.

Poster Formats & Dimensions

Original cinema posters were produced in a variety of standard formats depending on the country and era of release.

Common formats include UK Quad, US One Sheet and other theatrical display sizes. Exact dimensions for each poster are provided in the product details where relevant.

These historic formats are part of the distinctive character of original film advertising.

Framing Options

Many posters can be supplied professionally framed as an optional extra.

Framing is carried out using archival-quality materials designed to protect and display vintage paper safely. Frames are prepared to complement the artwork while maintaining a clean, gallery-style presentation.

Where framing is available, it can be selected before purchase.

Packaging & Delivery

Posters are carefully packaged to ensure safe delivery.

Unframed posters are typically shipped rolled safely packaged within our extra-thick custom-made tubes. Framed pieces are securely boxed using protective materials to minimise movement during transit.

Orders are dispatched with tracking where available.
