One of our favourite posters and we are delighted to have found a double-sided example!
A guaranteed original one sheet teaser movie poster from 1991 for Joe Johnstone's super-hero retro-sci-fi adventure "The Rocketeer", based on the Pacific Comics character created by Dave Stevens.
With the original comic-books inspired by the Commander Cody and King of the Rocket Men cinema serials of the 1940's and 1950's, the movie sees stunt pilot 'Cliff Secord' stumble across a mysterious jet-pack in 1930's Los Angeles. Billy Campbell stars as the eponymous hero, alongside Jennifer Connelly, Alan Arkin, Terry O'Quinn, Paul Sorvino, Timothy Dalton and Ed Lauter.
Developed by Disney Studios and therefore perhaps perceived as a 'movie for kids', The Rocketeer did not perform spectacularly on release, despite considerable critical acclaim. It has since developed a strong cult following and calls for a sequel have persisted. In 2016, Disney confirmed that a reboot entitled The Rocketeers was now in development.
This wonderful double-sided art-deco poster is a superb piece of art, bearing some resemblance to Moscow's 42 metre statue of astronaut Yuri Gagarin. The artist is John Mattos, who was apparently told "keep it simple", "they'll never use any of this anyway"! It has become highly collectible and is a difficult one to track down, especially in this condition.
Being double-sided, it could be used in an Art of the Movies Light Box or traditional framing. Either way, it will look amazing!
Note: This poster is priced unframed. Photos showing framed and 'in room' images are for illustration only. Please check our hi-res images and the sizing information shown above.
