A guaranteed original '8x10' promotional movie still for Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 organised crime masterpiece "The Godfather", based on the 1969 novel by Mario Puzo and starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Richard Castellano, Robert Duvall, Sterling Hayden, John Marley, Richard Conte and Diane Keaton.

What can I write about this film that hasn't already been said? One of the most celebrated films of all time... Nominated for eleven Oscars... Marlon Brando won the Best Actor award, but turned it down in protest of the depiction of Native Americans in films and on television. Nino Rota won the Best Score award, only to have it revoked as he had previously used some similar refrains in a previous film!

It would be followed by The Godfather Part 2 in 1974 and The Godfather Part 3 in 1990.

This superb promotional still captures the director, Francis Ford Coppola, pensive at a piano during the making of the film. A really wonderful piece of movie history.

The reverse of the still carries some text indicating that the image was subsequently published in City of San Francisco magazine. This magazine was bought by Coppola in 1973, but unfortunately folded a year later. We will provide a copy of the reverse for the new owner's records.

It is in fantastic condition and has been framed by us in a black ayous wood frame with an iced white mount, protective barrier board and crystal clear acrylic glazing. As our photos show, it will look amazing on display!

Note: This lobby card is priced framed. Photos showing 'in room' images are for illustration only. Please check our hi-res images and the sizing information shown above.

Original Poster Buying Guide

Authenticity & Original Posters

Art of the Movies specialises exclusively in authentic original cinema posters issued for theatrical release. These are not modern reproductions or decorative reprints.

Original posters were produced in limited numbers for cinemas to promote films during their initial release. As a result, surviving examples have become highly collectible artefacts of film history.

Each poster offered on this site is an authentic vintage piece created for cinema exhibition and carefully selected for collectors and film enthusiasts.

Condition & Age

Vintage cinema posters were working promotional materials used by theatres and distributors. As such, signs of age and handling are normal and form part of their character.

Condition is carefully assessed for each poster and reflected in the description. Where relevant, notes may include details such as light handling wear, fold lines from original cinema distribution, or minor edge wear.

Any significant restoration or conservation work will always be clearly stated.

Poster Formats & Dimensions

Original cinema posters were produced in a variety of standard formats depending on the country and era of release.

Common formats include UK Quad, US One Sheet and other theatrical display sizes. Exact dimensions for each poster are provided in the product details where relevant.

These historic formats are part of the distinctive character of original film advertising.

Framing Options

Many posters can be supplied professionally framed as an optional extra.

Framing is carried out using archival-quality materials designed to protect and display vintage paper safely. Frames are prepared to complement the artwork while maintaining a clean, gallery-style presentation.

Where framing is available, it can be selected before purchase.

Packaging & Delivery

Posters are carefully packaged to ensure safe delivery.

Unframed posters are typically shipped rolled safely packaged within our extra-thick custom-made tubes. Framed pieces are securely boxed using protective materials to minimise movement during transit.

Orders are dispatched with tracking where available.
