Do movie posters come any more iconic than this? I still get a thrill every time I handle one.
A guaranteed original pre-awards U.K. Quad movie poster from 1978 for "Star Wars", now known as "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope".
Written and directed by George Lucas and nominated in the "Best Picture" category for an Oscar, the film introduced us to Mark Hamill (as "Luke Skywalker"), Harrison Ford (as "Han Solo"), Carrie Fisher (as "Princess Leia"),Peter Cushing (as "Grand Moff Tarkin"), Alec Guinness (nominated in the "Best Supporting Actor" Oscar category, as Obi-Wan Kenobi) and a host of actors now very familiar faces to all movie fans.
This is such an historic poster, with the famous artwork by Tom William Chantrell. Once the film was recognised at the Oscars, that was added to the posters. The first posters (such as this one) do not have that information and are so much rarer. This is a really hard to find poster.
This example was originally issued folded and when we found it, had some areas of damage. It has now been linen-backed with sympathetic restoration by one of the best paper-conservators in the business. As our photos show, it will look incredible framed and on the wall of any Star Wars fan.
This is a holy-grail poster for any Star Wars collector. A real legend of a poster.
