Based on the 1965 novel by James Leo Herlihy, this incredible movie depicts the friendship of a male sex worker (Voight) and a limping con man (Hoffman). With astonishing performances by both leads (who were both nominated for the Best Actor Oscar) and amazing direction by Schlesinger, this is a gritty, yet beautiful movie. Even Toots Thielemans haunting mouth-organ theme tune is perfection.

Nominated for seven Academy Awards, it would win three, including the coveted Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. If you haven't seen it, do watch this movie.

On its original U.S. release the film was given an 'X' rating. This greatly reduced the number of movie theatres that were willing to show it, so the film was re-cut, gaining an 'R' rating. This poster is from the original release and carries the 'X' rating certification!
