A guaranteed original U.S. window card for William Wyler's biblical epic "Ben-Hur", adapted from the 1880 novel "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ" by American lawyer, civil war general and author Lew Wallace.
This movie is an epic on any scale. At the time it had the largest budget (~ $16M) and the biggest sets ever constructed for a movie. Over 200 artists painted backdrops and 100 tailors designed and made costumes for over 10,000 extras!
At the 1960 Oscars, it would win eleven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Charlton Heston) and Best Supporting Actor (Hugh Griffith).
Window cards were distributed by the cinema owner to be displayed in shops around their movie theatre. They are usually printed on thicker card-like paper stock and are almost always folded. This one is not folded!
It is also fantastic to know exactly where and when a movie poster was used! The Parrot Theatre in Alma, Nebraska, was owned and run by Paul and Thelma Haeker from 1933 to 1986 and so the writing on this window card may be theirs! In 1988 the theatre was taken over as a community concern and is still run by local families on a voluntary basis.
This wonderful lobby card has the date Thursday 6th July. That date fell on a Thursday in 1961. The fantastic artwork is by Joseph Smith. A really unique piece of cinema history for this epic movie!
We only sell guaranteed original movie posters. We do not sell reproductions.
Note: This lobby card is priced unframed. Photos showing framed and 'in room' images are for illustration only. Please check our hi-res images and the sizing information shown above.
