Set during the Sierra Leone Civil War, Blood Diamond tells of a fisherman, separated from his family and forced to mine for a ruthless warlord. When he discovers a large pink diamond, is it his ticket to find his lost family, or will it lead him in to even more danger?

Surprisingly, the brilliant score by James Newton Howard didn't receive an Oscar nomination, but the film did receive five Academy Award nods, including Best Actor (DiCaprio) and Best Supporting Actor (Hounsou).
