Winner of a "Special Achievement" Oscar, and nominated for three further Academy Awards, "Best Original Screenplay", "Best Original Score" and "Best Original Song" for "You've Got a Friend in Me", the film featured the voice talents of Tom Hanks (as "Woody") and Tim Allen (as "Buzz Lightyear").

The directorial debut of John Lasseter, Toy Story was the first feature-length computer-animated film and the first film produced by Pixar.
