Produced by the famous Studio Ghibli, this Oscar nominated movie gives a fictionalised account of the life of Jiro Horikoshi, designer of Japanese World War II fighter aircraft. Critic David Ehrlich has cited is as "perhaps the greatest animation ever made".

It was to be the final film of the legendary Miyazaki. However in 2017 he announced that he was coming out of retirement to direct How Do You Live? / The Boy and the Heron, released in 2023.
