This is an unusual one!

An original commercial movie poster from 2006 for Richard Donner's fantastic 1978 D.C. Comics super-hero adventure "Superman", starring Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel.

Reeve was brilliantly cast and played the bumbling Clark Kent as well as he played the super hero. With a budget of $55 million, it was, at the time, the most expensive film ever made. It's stellar cast, including Gene Hackman as a fabulous Lex Luther, and superb special effects (which earned it a special Oscar for Visual Effects) helped it achieve fantastic box office success, spawning three sequels.

This wonderful single-sided movie poster had us a little stumped. As was usual for the time, the original 1978 movie posters were 27x41 inches and nearly all were folded. This example is 27x40 inches and unfolded, but the print quality is just like the original release. A fellow movie poster collector cleared up the confusion. This poster was produced by Warner Bros in 2006 to support the release of the Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition 14 Disc DVD set. Apparently, those that purchased the set were able to order the posters too.

So, this poster was not produced to support a cinema release of the film, but, it is too good for us not to offer it!

The iconic artwork is by movie poster legend Bob Peak and it looks amazing in this unfolded format!

This film gave birth to the super-hero block buster that now dominates a lot of cinema. This image is as iconic as they come.
