The Films We Are Looking Forward To - July to December 2026

2 July 2026 4 min read By Adam Kennedy

Before we take a peek at the films we are looking forward to in the second half of 2026, let's take a look back at how the cinematic year has shaped up so far.

Top films of 2026 - Jan to June

The first half of 2026 has given cinema fans plenty to talk about and plenty of reasons to head back to the big screen. Sitting proudly at the top is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, already racing past the billion-dollar mark like it has found a very useful power-up. Close behind is Michael, showing that the right music, the right story and a truly iconic name can still bring audiences out in huge numbers.

Just below those two, there is a lovely mix of fresh stories and familiar favourites. Project Hail Mary is especially interesting, proving that a big, original-feeling sci-fi adventure can still make a major impact with audiences. Alongside it, returning worlds such as The Devil Wears Prada 2, Pegasus 3 and Toy Story 5 have all performed incredibly strongly, each passing the $600 million mark. Together, the top six films give the first half of 2026 a real sense of blockbuster weight. These are not just successful releases; they are proper cinema events, the kind that dominate trailers, conversations, merchandise shelves and, of course, poster displays.

There is then a noticeable step down to the next group, but still a very healthy mix of titles. Obsession, Hoppers, Backrooms and Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu all sit in the $300 million to $400 million range, while the rest of the top twenty shows just how varied audience tastes remain. Horror and thrillers are well represented, with Scary Movie, Scream 7, Disclosure Day and GOAT all making an appearance. Science fiction, fantasy and animation are also having a very good year, proving once again that, in an ever-uncertain world, cinema-goers love to be transported somewhere else entirely.

And the year is far from over. The second half of 2026 already has plenty waiting in the wings, with The Odyssey, Moana, Evil Dead Burn and Spider-Man: Brand New Day all lined up for July, before the calendar rolls on towards more family favourites, horror returns, fantasy adventures and a very busy December that includes Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Part Three, Jumanji 3 and The Angry Birds Movie 3.

Release dates can, of course, shuffle around like cinema seats five minutes before the trailers start, but if even a handful of these films land with audiences, the second half of the year could give 2026’s early box office champions some serious competition and give film fans a whole new wave of posters to fall in love with.
