Happy New Year! We hope that 2025 is a wonderful year for you and your loved ones!
Before we take a look at the films we are looking forward to in 2025, let's take a look back at 2024 at the cinema.
Just like 2023 (with Barbie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie), 2024 saw two movies take over $1B at the global box office. Inside Out 2 passed The Lion King to become the highest grossing animated film of all time and Deadpool and Wolverine gave us the most watched trailer in history, before showing that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still very much alive and banking $1.3B. Honourable mentions go out to Despicable Me 4 and Moana 2, which took $969M and $896M respectively, delighting family movie goers around the globe.

Across the top 20 films, an astonishing sixteen were sequels or part of an on-going franchise. In a period of economic uncertainty and actor and writer strikes, Hollywood's smart money evidently stuck to what it knew.
